Trifilon’s Baltic Reed Project Featured on MTV
24.02.2026
Our Chief Commercial Officer, Teemu Timonen, was recently interviewed by MTV Oy, where he discussed the future of biocomposite materials and the expanding potential of reed-based solutions in sustainable product innovation.

The conversation highlighted how Trifilon is advancing the use of natural fibers in biocomposites. Through collaboration with Arcada University of Applied Sciences within the Baltic Reed project, the development focuses on high-performance granulates combining renewable biomass derived from reed with polymer technology. The resulting materials are designed for diverse applications, ranging from consumer goods to automotive components.

Reed is a rapidly regenerating, low-maintenance raw material that requires neither irrigation nor fertilization. Its controlled harvesting also contributes to environmental management by helping reduce excess nutrients in coastal ecosystems. These characteristics make reed a promising resource for scalable sustainable material production.

At Trifilon, the goal is to deliver green material alternatives that maintain the performance standards required by industry. Growing international interest and cross-sector cooperation are helping accelerate the global adoption of biocomposite technologies.

We are grateful to MTV for helping bring attention to sustainable material development and the role of innovative natural fiber solutions in shaping the future of manufacturing.
